There are hardly any women without tattoos anymore

I recently watched John Wick 3, which is a decent action flick. The artistic vision of it is a bit muddled, and not just because I dislike seeing a dude wearing a black suit, black dress shirt, and a black tie. Who comes up with such bullshit? What is worse is the retro-futurism the movie espouses. It takes place in a parallel present that is highly connected. Yet, behind the scenes there is a secretive global organization in which people hack away at black-and-white terminals, use typewriters, or navigate through impressive rows of shelves with physical files. This leads to the topic of this post: the rank-and-file employees in that organization have shocking amounts of visible tattoos.

At first, I thought that all those men and women, young and old, with their ugly tattoos may just be a stylistic choice of the art director. Yet, upon further reflection, it hit me that tattoos are now so commonplace that it could well be that when extras were hired for John Wick 3 that all they could find were some tatted up sluts and soy-boy faggots, so they just went along with that trend and turned a (societal) vice into a virtue for the movie and used it as part of the stylistic vision they wanted to portray.

The other day I came across a meme showing a picture of a flamboyant announcer. Instead of a woman without a torso, however, he announced “the woman without tattoos”. That is indeed where we are heading. What I find so baffling is that tattoos are popping up everywhere nowadays. Even in a professional context women have no qualms about showing their tattoos anymore. Apparently, having an ankle tattoo is okay in business nowadays. Among business-card carrying professionals, I have also come across the occasional shoulder or neck tattoo or, a bit more often, forearm tattoos.

It seems to be the new normal to get a tattoo. It’s not even something women seem to question anymore. Just like makeup and getting their ears pierced for earrings, having some emotional quote or symbol tattooed for all the world to see is now something like a rite of passage. This is not even a good opportunity to gush about Singaporean women because even over there tattoos are getting more popular. They are at the stage of cute little hearts or other symbols, preferably at a place where they can be hidden with little effort. That was where the West was ten or fifteen years ago. I bet that in a decade or so, the mystical woman without debts and tattoos as well as an intact hymen will be able to command a large premium on the marriage market.

  1. The employees in the film were definitely intentionally depicted as being tattooed. This is due to the (former?) cultural connection between tattoos and criminality. The filmmakers might be laughing about how those women wouldn’t look out of place in polite company nowadays.

Tattoos seem to have become more popular with women than with men nowadays, any idea why that is? It was traditionally seen as masculine.

And why such prominent tattoos? A female friend of mine recently got here first tattoo. A large design on her chest. Men usually start on the upper arm.

  2. I’ve noticed this disgusting tattoo trend too. Maybe it’s kinda hot but like @AaronSleazy said, I’ve seen people tatting up on visible places. Women in particular have ridiculously banal sentences (like “so it goes…”) inked on their forearm.

    ==> The holy trifecta/trinity!

In an era where women chop off their locks, eschew wearing makeup because it is demeaning, and chase climbing the corporate ladder, I think we are at a point where we can only hope to land a ‘Plain Jane’. Scratch that – we are at a point where guys will opt fo a fembot.

    1. Yup, the sheer banality of those sentences is often hard to swallow. I think a chick walking around with a sentence like “Follow your dreams!” on her shoulder blade (I’ve seen that one two or three times) must have a part of her brain missing. Even more ridiculous are those who got tattoos with Chinese or Thai characters. Of course, they can’t verify what those sentences say. Maybe it says “trash” or “ugly” as opposed to, say, “freedom”. Check out this link for examples:

People got mocked for tattoos 20 years ago already, though. There was a song by The Offspring (Pretty Fly For a White Guy) with the line, “He asked for a 13, but they drew a 31”. I bet plenty of ditzes who listened to that track as kids or teens later on got tattoos of Chinese characters that could say anything.

  3. You guys do know in previous psychological research that tattoos were a sign of someone being mentally ill?

It is insanely rare to see a beautiful woman with no tattoos.

It might just be me but I think the more tattoos a woman has, the more dicks she has taken. No thanks, I’ll pass.

    1. I would be very surprised if there was not a positive correlation between the percentage of skin surface area of a woman that is covered by tattoos and the number of sexual partners.

Actually there is yes. Despite the fact that there’s a discussion on tattoos going on here, I didn’t mention this coz I thought it was common knowledge and everyone knows this.

The research was making the rounds around these spheres (seduction community etc) many times in those early sedcom years. I don’t remember the specifics off the top of my head, but yes, research found this correlation.

  4. I can’t help think that tattoos make people look more like reptiles.

And probably act reptilian too (quick satisfaction of desires, no ability to think long term… like that famous marshmallow test in psychology)

It’s like humanity is devolving while technology is advancing (ie. replacing us).
